Preview: Manchester United vs Crystal Palace – team news and how to watch the game live

Manchester United are looking to make it three wins from three on pre-season after putting four goals past Liverpool and Melbourne Victory in their opening two matches of the tour.

Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace side go into the pre-season friendly match off the back of a 2-0 loss to Liverpool on Friday. That game was held in Singapore, but the Eagles have since travelled to Melbourne to take on Erik ten Hag’s Reds. They’ve also draw with Accrington Stanley and beat Millwall.

Although none of us will be getting carried away by the results we see on tour, especially after such a disappointing campaign in 2021/22, there have been plenty of encouraging signs. Those include Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford getting back on the scoresheet, Jadon Sancho standing out as a key player, and the fact most United fans are getting excited about the prospect of young midfielder Zidane Iqbal.

Manchester United will start get the 2022/23 season underway with a home game against Brighton on August 7, and Ten Hag will hope to have more additions to his squad by then. Plus, don’t forget to check the latest gambling news for the best prices on Premier League markets as we approach the news.

Ten Hag has signed three players this summer, including Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez.

Palace have had a problematic start to their preparations for the new season because they’ve only got 10 senior players available. Those missing include Marc Guehi, Wilfried Zaha, Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise, Christian Benteke and Cheikhou Kouyate.

Meanwhile, United fans will hope to see David de Gea and Raphael Varane return to the line-up after missing the 4-1 win over Melbourne Victory due to minor injuries.

Cristiano Ronaldo has yet to join up with the squad – but since new signing Eriksen and Martinez are waiting for the squad to leave Australia, I can only imagine the Portuguese superstar will be doing the same. Ten Hag spoke about working with him next season in a recent interview, saying: “I am well informed – he also has an option [for a further season]. Yes, [Ronaldo could stay beyond this season]. Of course I have signed here for three years but in football it’s short term as well. We have to win from the start. So I don’t look that far ahead.”

SN’s predicted Manchester United line-up: De Gea; Dalot, Maguire, Varane, Malacia; McTominay, Fred; Rashford, Fernandes, Sancho; Martial.
