Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick could look to his former club, Manchester United, for reinforcements in January.
Carrick took on the challenge of his first permanent managerial role at the end of October when Middlesbrough acquired his services.
The Englishman had completed a short spell as caretaker manager at United, following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, for three matches; overseeing wins against Arsenal and Villarreal and a draw against Chelsea.
Throughout his playing career, Carrick became one of the most decorated players in football. He won five Premier Leagues and Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup and Club World Cup trophies. He completed every domestic honour in the English game.
Carrick keen on move for Zidane Iqbal
According to Football League World, Carrick is interested in signing United’s Zidane Iqbal on loan, who he will know well from his time in the coaching staff at Carrington.
Iqbal is an academy graduate who has impressed at youth level throughout his development.
The 19-year-old made his senior debut last season in a Champions League clash and has been included in matchday squads this season under Erik ten Hag.
The teenager may be open to the move to gain experience of regular football in the first team of a Championship side.
It will also be a good opportunity for Ten Hag to monitor his progress and decide how and when to utilise Iqbal in the team.
