Manchester United’s newest addition Marcel Sabitzer has expressed his desire to win trophies with the club and play at the Theatre of Dreams.
Back in 2020, the Austrian played at Old Trafford whilst representing RB Leipzig. It was a Champions League group-stage tie that ended 5-0 in United’s favour, but Sabitzer was mesmerised before the game when he scanned the stadium, which holds history like no other club in England.
He said to club media, “I used to see this stadium on TV as a kid, I always wanted to come here.” – now he can experience it as a Red himself with over 70 thousand of the United faithful in full voice, roaring the team on.
Sabitzer has been acquired on loan from Bayern Munich to fill in for the injured Christian Eriksen, who has sustained an ankle injury and is expected to return by late April/early May. The Austrian is a like-for-like alternative and is proven across Europe.
He will wear the No.15 shirt and could make his debut on Saturday, February 4 against Crystal Palace.
Sabitzer sets sights on silverware
Speaking to MUTV, the 28-year-old made his passion clear, saying: “I will give my all for the jersey. I’m very happy to be here, I will give my best and we will see what happens, but I am here to win trophies.
“Manchester United is a big club with fantastic fans. Old Trafford is a big stadium, I’ve played there once – it was empty (due to COVID restrictions) – but I felt it was very nice. It is a great feeling to have the badge on my chest and I’m looking forward [to it].”
Sabitzer described his own play style and labelled himself a “box-to-box player and creative in the offensive third”.
He added: “You can have a lot of expectations from me: good shots, duels. I’m excited to be on the pitch at Old Trafford.”
The midfielder is the first Austrian to play for the Red Devils and is proud to have made history by joining the club.
“That’s history. I talked with my agents before, I’m the first one. I feel proud and I will do my best to be a good Austrian player.”
