(Video) ‘Disrespect’ – Darren Ambrose blames Antony for Casemiro red card

Former Crystal Palace midfielder Darren Ambrose (who?) now works for talkSPORT and often gives his verdict on things that happen in the Premier League.

In the aftermath of Saturday’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, every man and his dog has been asked for their thoughts on Casemiro’s red card.

The Brazil international was shown a straight red and sent for an early shower by referee Andre Marriner after being spotted with his hands around Will Hughes’ collar. Both teams clashed after Palace winger Jeffrey Schlupp pushed Antony off the pitch towards the advertising hoardings.

However, Ambrose believes Antony was to blame for the scuffle which lead to Casemiro’s red card.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Sunday evening, Ambrose slammed Antony for his showboating because he deemed his rainbow flick as a mark of ‘disrespect’ towards Schlupp.

“I was at the game and I saw it. It was about a minute before, Antony picked the ball up right where the foul happened and he tried to rainbow flick it over Tyrick Mitchell and Jeffrey Schlupp’s head.

“I was working with Danny Simpson and we both agreed that the next time he gets the ball he could be in trouble here. They were 2-0 up, cruising, they were the better side at the time, he didn’t need to do that.

“There’s showboating and there’s expressing yourself and then there’s disrespect and that’s what happened.”

Ambrose added that he felt Antony “got away mild” with the challenge from Schlupp. I don’t want to put words in his mouth, but is he suggesting that a rainbow flick warrants a broken leg or another serious injury?

“Next time he got the ball, exactly what we said. He got away mild, to be honest, Jeffrey Schlupp just pushed him down the hill.

“That’s why it wasn’t an “are you okay” that’s why Schlupp walked towards him and mouthed something to him. Probably “don’t be so disrespectful” in no uncertain terms.”

It’s a pretty barbaric take to hear on the radio.

Why do pundits like Ambrose appreciate showboating and find it so offensive?
