Manchester United and Crystal Palace learn fate after brawl in Premier League clash

Manchester United and Crystal Palace have both been fined £55,000 by the Football Association for an on-pitch brawl that saw Casemiro sent off earlier this month.

There has been a number of similar incidents in the Premier League since the handbag exchange between United and Palace, without any red cards standing… and Casemiro’s offence really was a minor one.

VAR spotted Casemiro’s hands on Will Hughes’ collar but the footage looked a lot worse in slow-motion, which is not something the officials seem capable of understanding.

Anyhow, both United and Palace have been fined for their involvement in the brawl.

A statement from the FA read (via The Athletic): “Manchester United and Crystal Palace have both been fined £55,000 for a mass confrontation between their players in the 67th minute of a Premier League match on Saturday 4th February.

“Manchester United and Crystal Palace respectively accepted and denied that they failed to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and refrained from provocative behaviour.

“An independent Regulatory Commission subsequently found the charge against Crystal Palace proven and imposed both of the clubs’ fines.”

Even though Casemiro’s offence was minor, Ten Hag decided not to appeal the decision because it could have seen the 3-match ban extended by a further domestic game. That would have ruled him out of the Carabao Cup final win last Sunday.

Both clubs will take the fine and move on but it’s not like we can expect them to avoid further brawls in the future. I, for one, hope there’s plenty without our players getting sent off!
