Ten Hag praises Manchester United winger after short cameo against Real Betis

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has spoken highly of Facundo Pellistri ahead of tomorrow’s match with Southampton.

The young Uruguayan came on against Real Betis in the Europa League and showcased an impressive cameo from the bench. It was the sort of performance that will push the demand from fans to see Pellistri get more minutes in the first team.

And that is to his credit. When you are a player on the fringe of the team, you need to take your opportunities when they come, as missed chances could ruin any hope of a future at Old Trafford.

Speaking to club media, as per ManUtd.com, Ten Hag said: “He is the example by deserving his position by performance on the training [ground]. And I said the other day, I did not select him for Liverpool and it was not even totally justified because he was training that well. Now this was his moment to come on because of a longer period he performed in training.

“What impressed me was he came on and, straight [away], showed himself. When they came on, Scott [McTominay] and Pelli, it was 3-1 but 4-1 is huge, to make the extra goal. In the first moment, they did, which was brilliant.”

This may give a inkling that Pellistri will get some minutes against Southampton.

It would be great to be able to bring him on in the second half with a two goal lead at least.
