Match review: United book place in FA Cup semi-final after emphatic clash with Fulham

Manchester United are in the FA Cup semi-finals after an emphatic quarter-final clash with Fulham at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils extended their unbeaten run to 22 games on home turf and will have their sights firmly set on another trophy after lifting the Carabao Cup just weeks ago.

Signs of fatigue were evident in the first half and United were not performing anywhere near their best level. They consequently conceded the first goal in the 50th minute through the prolific Aleksandar Mitrovic.

However, the drama that followed was unprecedented; Willian handled the ball on the goalline which ultimately led to Chris Kavanagh brandishing Fulham three red cards in 40 seconds – the first went to the Brazilian for the handball, the second to Marco Silva for interfering with the referee’s decision during his VAR check at the monitor, and the third to Mitrovic for pushing Kavanagh.

Bruno Fernandes swiftly converted a spot-kick to level the tie, before Marcel Sabitzer opened his United goalscoring account just a minute later to put the Reds ahead.

Who will United face in the semi-final?

In injury time, Fernandes found the net again to seal a 3-1 win and United’s progression to the semis, where they’ll face Brighton and Hove Albion at Wembley Stadium.
