Marcel Sabitzer hails Erik ten Hag as midfielder eyes more trophies

Marcel Sabitzer was one of three loan signings in the recent January transfer window and the Austrian was primarily brought in to cover for the injured Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen sustained a serious ankle injury in January and just 24 hours after the club confirmed he would be missing the majority of the second half of the season, Sabitzer joined the club on a six-month loan.

Since his arrival, the former RB Leipzig star has impressed and recently, he scored his first goal for the Reds as United secured their passage into the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Speaking recently, the 29-year-old has showered manager Erik ten Hag with praise and set a target to win more trophies at the club, having already picked up his first prize in the form of a Carabao Cup winners’ medal.

“In modern football, there are a lot of tactical things going around,” Sabitzer is quoted as saying on the official Manchester United website.

“You switch during a game so you have to be versatile. I think I am and I think it helps me a lot.

“The manager does a lot of work. He is a hard worker, very structured and he’s helping us a lot with his game-plans, with training. He’s a very good coach, tactical, and, as a guy too, we are enjoying the fact that he is our manager and are looking forward to working together and bringing trophies to Man United.”

SN’s verdict…
United are almost certainly going to be on the hunt for another midfielder this summer but the priority will be to secure a long-term striker option, having settled for short-term options in recent years.

The midfield will also be addressed, however, and that’s where a permanent move for Sabitzer could come into play. He has struggled to secure a place for Bayern Munich and if he continues to impress at Old Trafford, he may turn out to be a functional solution to make up the numbers.
