Casemiro named new captain of Brazil national team

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has been named the new captain of the Brazil national team.

It is the first international break for the Selecao under interim boss Ramon Menezes after former head coach Tite exited his role following the World Cup last year.

Casemiro has been called up to represent the squad throughout the final break of the season along with fellow Red Antony and loanee Alex Telles, though Fred didn’t receieve a call-up this time around.

The 31-year-old has completely revitalised United’s midfield under Erik ten Hag and has been instrumental to the resurgence happening at Old Trafford.

Casemiro will now don the armband for the foreseeable future. His experience, leadership and dominance on the pitch makes it no question why he has been chosen to take on the lucrative role for his nation.

Casemiro on being named Selecao captain

Our No.18 spoke out on being trusted by the manager via the club website.

“There are several ways of thinking, we had Thiago Silva [as captain] in the World Cup but, on my part, I feel prepared. I prepared myself for this and I am thankful for the trust. If it’s another captain, no problem because I know I am one of the leaders and I have complete freedom to speak as a captain before the group.

“Tite had a philosophy, we had to respect it, but, regardless of the title, the leaders on the field, the most experienced players, everyone has the privilege and the right to speak with others or the referee. Respect on the pitch is earned.”

  1. United are on course to get 73 points this season. That’s one less than ole’s best and 8 less than Mourinho.

It is 4 more than LVG’s best. The idea that there is a united resurgence is utter nonsense. I think ETH is the right guy but currently he is hardly pulling up trees. I’m sure he would agree.

United blogs and fans should stop hyping things that aren’t there. They did it with ole and it was all clearly false.

With this squad ETH is arguably underachieving, certainly not overachieving.

    1. Well, there are other leagues apart from the Premier League. Why are you pressed?
It’s also ETH’s first season in charge.

I wouldn’t say we’re over-achieving but if you think we’re not ‘achieving’, you’re just blind
