Fabrizio Romano provides transfer update on Man United defender

Manchester United are expected to be active in this summer’s transfer window, with Erik ten Hag focusing on continuing to strengthen his squad.

Several departures are also expected, however, with some players set to return to the club following season-long loans at various clubs.

Alex Telles is among the players to have spent the campaign elsewhere, plying his trade at Sevilla, who are struggling in Spain’s top flight.

Telles is in line to play against United in next month’s Europa League quarter-final and now, journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on his future.

“I want to clarify something about Alex Telles,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.

“We have many stories about the left-back, he has spoken to the press. From what I understand, there is no buy option in the contract between Man United and Sevilla for Alex Telles.

“So he will be back to Man United at the end of the season and at the moment, Sevilla are not planning to make a bid to sign Alex Telles on a permanent transfer.”

Romano goes on to explain that United will instead look to find a different exit route for Telles, who is behind both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia in the pecking order.

SN’s verdict…
The signing of Malacia last summer almost immediately confirmed that Telles’ future at Old Trafford was bleak and at this point, it’s highly unlikely that he will be able to resurrect it.

Telles will have one year remaining on his contract this summer and that means United are likely to accept small sums for the Brazil international.
