‘He is a United player’ – teammate backs hat-trick hero for Manchester United move

Manchester United are on the lookout for a long-term striker option this summer, with the six-month signing of Wout Weghorst in January temporarily plugging the hole for Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag is likely to make it his priority to strengthen that department, having made the improving midfield his prime task last year.

United are without a consistent goalscorer in that position, with Marcus Rashford being the only reliable forward able to find the net regularly.

Signing a striker could help offset the reliance on Rashford and Napoli talisman Victor Osimhen and Tottenham star Harry Kane have both been linked.

Osimhen has been stealing all of the headlines in Serie A this season but one player has gone under the radar and that’s Atalanta prodigy Rasmus Hojlund.

The Danish international is enjoying a breakout season with the Bergamo club and recently, he scored a hat-trick for Denmark in their EURO 2024 qualifiers.

Speaking after the game, Denmark teammate Philip Billing, who plays for Bournemouth in the Premier League, has urged the forward to sign for United.

“It was his night. He is a huge talent who can go really far if he continues to keep his feet on the ground,” Billing told Tribal Football after Hojlund scored his hat-trick.

“Manchester United… The way he plays, I can see him there from the summer. They also apparently lack a striker. He has enormous potential and I feel he is a United player.”

Hojlund has four years remaining on his contract at Atalanta and any deal to sign him from the Serie A club is not going to be cheap for the Reds.
