Paul Mitchell named as Man United target if Sir Jim Ratcliffe wins bidding

Manchester United are going through a highly public takeover and as things stand, there are two main candidates to buy the club from the Glazer family.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS firm submitted an offer in the second round of bidding earlier this week, with Sheikh Jassim from Qatar also making a revised proposal.

The impending sale of United comes at a time where on the pitch, the Reds are improving with each passing week and the future is looking bright under Erik ten Hag.

A number of structural changes were made in 2021, with Darren Fletcher and John Murtough being appointed as Technical Director and Football Director respectively. The pair have worked together for the last two summers as main pillars in the recruitment process.

Now, it is being claimed that should Ratcliffe and his consortium come out on top in the bidding for United, the UK billionaire has already earmarked who his preferred option as the club’s sporting director would be.

That’s according to the Independent, who say that Mitchell has impressed during his time at Monaco but following his announcement that he would be departing the French club, he is now looking for a return to England.

It’s claimed that Liverpool have also explored the possibility of recruiting Mitchell but those suggestions have been rejected recently.

It is also reported that although Mitchell’s most recent job title was sporting director, it is not clear whether he would be joining United in that same capacity.

Mitchell was spotted alongside then interim manager Ralf Rangnick at one of United’s youth games last season, sparking supporters into debating whether there was something brewing.

It was later revealed that Mitchell was merely in Manchester to visit family and friends before swiftly making his way back to Monaco.
