Fabrizio Romano names Man United as one of three clubs interested in French midfielder

Manchester United have a number of areas they will need to assess this summer as Erik ten Hag continues his rampant revolution at the club.

The Dutchman made it his priority to strengthen the midfield last summer but uncertain futures and injury problems mean that United may need to reinforce that area once more this year.

Christian Eriksen and Casemiro have both proven to be valuable additions to the squad but the former recently sustained a serious ankle injury, with his replacement Marcel Sabitzer expected to return to Bayern Munich at the end of his loan spell.

Fred, who has enjoyed a fairly promising campaign under Ten Hag with important roles in some key matches, is entering the final 12 months of his contract.

Additionally, United do not currently have a first-team midfielder below the age of 26. That could prompt the Reds into entering the market for a younger midfielder and according to journalist and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, they are one of three clubs monitoring one of the Bundesliga’s hottest properties.

As per the reporter, Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone is expected to be one of this summer’s main agendas in the market, with the 21-year-old reportedly up for grabs at a deal worth more than €50m.

It’s claimed that alongside United, Premier League rivals Chelsea and French giants Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the Frenchman.

Manu Kone has two years remaining on his current deal at Monchengladbach but there is an option to extend that deal for an additional season, according to Transfermarkt. Kone has started 24 of Glabach’s 25 league games this season.
