Marcus Rashford returns to Carrington after England injury absence

Marcus Rashford has made his way back to Manchester United’s Carrington training ground after spending the week abroad following the decision to withdraw from the England squad.

Rashford was named in England’s squad for games against Italy and Ukraine but it quickly emerged that the 25-year-old would not take part after sustaining an injury in the 3-1 win over Fulham earlier this month.

Rashford was spotted in New York City earlier this week and that was met with some criticism but England manager Gareth Southgate defended the winger.

Now, six days before United return to action with a trip to Newcastle, Rashford has returned to Carrington and seems to be on track to recover in time for that game.

Rashford updated supporters on Twitter with a snap from a recent training session, as seen above. Other international stars are expected to return to the club imminently, with only a handful of games left to play in this break.

In an update posted on the official Manchester United website, it was stated that Rashford only took part in a small session away from the main group of players.

As per the update, Rashford did not undergo any training with the ball at his feet and his fitness is labelled a ‘concern’ going into this weekend’s game at Newcastle.

Rashford is currently enjoying his best goalscoring campaign to date, having found the net 27 times in all competitions this season.

He could become the first United player to hit the 30-goal mark since Robin van Persie did so in the stunning 2012/13 season under Sir Alex Ferguson.
