Manchester United join Spurs and Arsenal in race for £50m defender

Manchester United are weighing up a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, which reports that Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are also in the race for the centre-back.

Should Guehi leave Palace, his former club, Chelsea, will receive a 20 per cent fee from the sell-on clause that they included in his contract when he departed the Blues in 2021.

The Eagles have reportedly set a valuation of £50 million for the 22-year-old, who captained the club for the first time last year after having an instant impact on the squad’s backline.

Ten Hag eyes centre-back additions

United must first decide what to do with their own club captain, Harry Maguire, who has fallen down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils boss is seemingly keen on acquiring a new centre-back to provide backup and competition to his first-choice duo of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.

Both players sustained injuries last month and the Reds have looked considerably weaker in their absence, so bolstering United’s defensive options will be crucial if the side want to compete on all four fronts next term.

Kim Min-jae is also a reported target for Ten Hag. Napoli’s stalwart defender has a release clause of around £40 – £50 million.
