Rio Ferdinand would have no qualms about spending £100m on Harry Kane

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has made it no secret that he would take Harry Kane at Manchester United.

Harry Kane has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, although recent reports suggest Daniel Levy will rebuff any attempts made to sign him by other clubs in the Premier League. That means it will take more pushing from Kane’s side to get a deal over the line before the start of next season.

Personally, I think anyone in the right frame of mind would. Kane guarantees goals and that is exactly what Erik ten Hag’s side have lacked this season.

Despite playing in an awful Tottenham Hotspur side that fell short of competing for a top four spot, Kane managed an incredible 30 Premier League goals, so you can only imagine what a player of that calibre would bring to our side.

Ferdinand certainly hopes this was Kane’s last season at Tottenham and that he will eventually move to United this summer. On top of that, he’d have no issue spending big money to take Kane to Manchester.

In the latest episode of Rio Ferdinand’s Five podcast, the former England international sat down with Stephen Howson and Joel Beya to discuss one of United’s transfer targets.

Howson asked Ferdinand if he would pay £100m to sign Kane now, to which he replied: “In today’s market, I think I’d probably spend it now.

“Imagine Man United had another 25 goals to what they’ve had this season. It will change the dynamic of the team completely.

“United are in a position where they’re gonna have to pay a big chunk if they want one of those two [Osimhen and Kane] and they can’t wait another year for Kane.”

Ferdinand is right to assess the cost against the reward because there are not many players out there that can bring  United that much closer to competing with Man City.

Can you imagine an extra 30 goals added to whatever Rashford delivered and he managed that amount this season – with a cup final to play this weekend.

“He’s guaranteeing you 25 goals,” Ferdinand added. “He also may get you a few trophies and he’ll make your money back in shirt sales. The guy just guarantees goals man, he’s a goal machine and a generational goal-getter.”

There’s no doubt in my mind that Kane would be a phenomenal signing for Ten Hag.

Let’s hope the takeover gets sorted soon.
