Bruno Fernandes ready for special opportunity at Wembley against rivals Man City

You can imagine a player like Bruno Fernandes having fire built up in the belly ahead of an end-of-season cup final against rivals Man City.

The Portuguese playmaker wears his heart on his sleeve for club and country, and he’s never shy when it comes to mouthing off at officials.

Let’s just say Fernandes has no problem getting his point across.

We are sure there will be lots of that when Fernandes takes to the Wembley turf on Saturday. Erik ten Hag’s side are on the hunt for a cup double and they’ll be trying to prevent City from winning the treble after becoming Premier League champions. And, I don’t think anyone fancies Inter Milan in the Champions League final, so it’s pretty much down to us.

Fernandes, who captained United for the majority of the season in Harry Maguire’s absence, is expected to start against City at the weekend.

Speaking to the FA Cup final programme ahead of the derby match, Fernandes said it would ‘mean a lot’ to lift the trophy and end what has been a fantastic season on a high.

“We’re all looking forward to it,” Fernandes said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “Any opportunity to play in a final for Manchester United is special, so we have to be ready. We know that the fans will be there supporting us and we want to do everything we can to make them happy.

“It would mean a lot [to win] of course. At this club we always have to be reaching finals and trying to win trophies. We know that is the minimum at a club like this and for us as players. Everyone knows the FA Cup, how important it is in this country and in football.

“It will be a special day and playing against Manchester City is always a big game. We all know the rivalry, we know what it means to us and what it means to our fans. We want to win every game that we play for this club because that is what it deserves.

“Of course it’s a final so we want to win even more and bring home the trophy. We’ve made good progress [this season] and have improved a lot together but at the same time we know there is still a long way to go before we reach the level that we want to achieve.

“We’ve played a lot of games, we’ve had some great moments and some difficult ones, too. For sure we have made a good start in what we want to do here but we can never settle and be satisfied until we are winning trophies consistently.”
