Manchester United open talks with Chelsea after agreeing Mason Mount personal terms

Manchester United have been eager to get ball rolling over a deal for Mason Mount.

Earlier this week it emerged that Mason Mount had agreed personal terms with Manchester United. We now know he rejected three offers from Chelsea, despite the club offering to make the midfielder one of their highest earners.

The latest news comes from The Times. They state United have opened talks with Chelsea over the potential signing, which is a strong suggestion they want to get this deal done and dusted early on in the window.

However, it is understood United are yet to make an official offer for Mount. It makes sense to open a dialogue with the selling club first.

The report adds: “United, who play Manchester City in the FA Cup final today, are increasingly confident of reaching an agreement and are believed to be preparing an offer after the conclusion of their season.

“Chelsea do not want to sell Mount, an academy product who they value at £70 million, but insiders believe his desire is to leave Stamford Bridge with one year remaining on his contact.”

Chelsea feel they’ve done everything possible to keep Mount, but this could be a matter of having his head turned by United and the prospect of playing under Erik ten Hag.

As of now, it doesn’t look like Mauricio Pochettino will be able to change Mount’s mind about staying at Chelsea beyond this transfer window.
