Dean Henderson’s exit put on ice until United have clarity on David de Gea’s future

Manchester United have put Dean Henderson’s expected exit on ice until David de Gea’s plans are confirmed.

That’s according to The Athletic, which confirms the club are yet to sign off on De Gea’s proposed contract offer, which would see him extend his 12-year stay at Old Trafford.

His eye-watering wages are expected to be significantly slashed; the Spaniard is currently United’s highest earner on a whopping £375,000 per week but his performances across the past season have not warranted such an extortionate amount.

Henderson likely to leave United permanently

Academy graduate Dean Henderson is set to leave United for Nottingham Forest, with whom he spent the 2022/2023 campaign on loan. He did, however, see his season cut short after he sustained an injury in January.

The Midlands side are preparing to table a bid for the Englishman and he is open to re-joining after they retained their Premier League status.

Steve Cooper and the Forest hierarchy do not want to pay his £25 million valuation, though, so there is work to do in those negotiations.

However, United are not overly entertaining talks for Henderson until De Gea’s contract is signed and sealed.

They’re also actively scouring the market for a new goalkeeper to “genuinely challenge” the 32-year-old. As of yet, no concrete links or approaches are being made from United’s side.
