One of United’s highest performers this season is ‘seen as replaceable’ and can be sold this summer to PL club

A report from iNews suggests that Manchester United are prepared to sanction Scott McTominay’s exit this summer, despite him being their joint-top goalscorer in the Premier League.

The Scotland international has been deemed somewhat of an Ole Gunnar Solskjaer-esque ‘super sub’ this season, having contributed four crucial goals off the bench and proving to be one of the Reds’ most clinical finishers in front of the net.

He played a vital starting role under Erik ten Hag earlier in the term, being granted 13 successive starts in the league and Champions League from October through to December 2023, until the return of Casemiro and the emergence of teenage starlet Kobbie Mainoo saw McTominay’s role reduced to a more rotational one, with only two of his last 10 appearances in the top flight coming from the offset.

There is also fierce competition for minutes in the midfield department at Old Trafford; Christian Eriksen boasts a plethora of senior experience but has also fallen in the manager’s estimations, Sofyan Amrabat has not impressed nearly as much as the club initially hoped and is therefore utilised sparingly, and Mason Mount is closing in on his return from a long-term injury setback.

Could McTominay depart his boyhood club?

As such, the board will be keen to cash in on those players who are deemed surplus to requirements at the end of the season. iNews claims that McTominay, 27, is ‘seen as replaceable’ and there are hopes that West Ham United, who had a £30 million bid rejected last summer, reignite their pursuit of the Carrington graduate this year.

  1. All our players are ‘replaceable’: just go out and buy another one. That’s worked really well so far, hasn’t it?
Still, he scores goals, tries hard, and cares about the Club so get rid as he clearly doesn’t fit in with some of the others😡
