Erik ten Hag speaks out after four-game winless run in the Premier League

Erik ten Hag has spoken out after his side extended their winless streak in the Premier League, with United now failing to win each of their last four league outings.

Three of those four games have been draws and that was also the case on Saturday evening when the Reds came back from behind twice at the Vitality Stadium.

Bournemouth took an early lead through Dominic Solanke but United responded immediately, with Fernandes equalising. The hosts regained their lead after the interval but Fernandes stepped up to score his second from the spot halfway through the second half.

Speaking after the game, the manager delivered his post-match verdict and highlighted how United grew into the game.

“We know we have to win,” the boss told Sky Sports, via the BBC. “We want to battle, to compete for the top positions. You see the game, we struggled first half, [Harry] Maguire was struggling but he overcame because we needed him to.

“The second half was much better, the good thing is we fought back twice from a losing position. The team spirit is good. By the end it could’ve been more composed and calm and we could’ve played more chances out.

“The opponent was struggling because they gave so much energy in the first half and there were so many gaps but we didn’t benefit from it.”

Ten Hag also reserved special praise for skipper Fernandes, who has now scored in three straight games following his brace on the south coast.

“Scoring twice, very creative, it’s true he gives a lot of energy to the team,” he said. “He is acting as a captain, bringing the energy and we are very pleased with this.

“We are all disappointed but he expresses that feeling. We have to win our games and we have dropped too many unnecessary points in the last few games.”

United now face a longer wait before their next Premier League game as a trip to Wembley is next up. United could seal a place in next month’s FA Cup final, with Coventry City standing in their way next weekend.

  1. No way Garnacho was offside against Arsenal, if you look at the line from a diagonal view, he looks onside. So unfair.

  2. You know: I could give ETH’s post-match verdicts.
Heard the same thing dozens of times now.
Should have done this, should have done that.
Who is it that’s responsible for ensuring that this and that are done?
Would it be the Manager, by any chance?
Is the Manager that same ETH?
Anyone see this improving any time soon, or indeed any time at all?
Anyone feeling confident about the Coventry match?
The Coventry who shipped 3 goals against Birmingham?
Manchester United should be good for at least 6, then.
    Surely?
