Jadon Sancho is reportedly mulling over his long-term future with Manchester United, with his Borussia Dortmund loan spell set to expire in the summer.
There was no buy option included in the player’s terms, so he was always going to return to Old Trafford before a concrete decision was made on his status as a United player.
Seven months on from when his feud with Erik ten Hag began, in which Sancho insinuated that his manager was a liar for airing out concerns over his training levels, the winger finds himself in a Champions League semi-final with the Bundesliga outfit.
He’s scored twice and assisted a further two goals in his 14 appearances across all competitions, having featured just three times for United in the Premier League before his exile began.
According to iPaper Sport, the 24-year-old would only consider ‘starting again’ with the Reds if Ten Hag’s tenure has come to an end. Given the side’s recent four-game winless run and woeful performances, the prospect isn’t that far-fetched.
Nevertheless, Sancho did burn a lot of bridges with fans when he refused to apologise and resume playing, especially when the debilitating injury crisis hit and an extra, senior body in the matchday squad could’ve been game-changing.
Sancho saga has dragged on too long
The situation needs a quick resolution once the campaign draws to a close, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be navigating his first-ever window as co-owner of the club. The last thing he needs is Sancho playing a waiting game over his career.
One thing’s for sure, if a permanent sale ended up being the chosen option, United wouldn’t recuperate anywhere near the £73 million they paid for him back in 2021.
